Welcome to the Dawson Area Chamber of Commerce Monthly Newsletter. We wanted to create another communication tool for our members and community to stay up to date on events happening in our community. The newsletter will be sent out on the 1st of each month and will be posted to our website as well. Chamber members can include event information for no cost. Winterfest this Weekend!
Winterfest is happening this weekend we have several events planned. Click here for more details! Don’t forget to listen to the radio for the last clues to find the winter medallion! You could win $100 in Dawson Chamber Dollars!
Just a reminder that Chamber Membership dues should be sent in by ASAP. Your membership provides you with opportunities to cash Chamber Dollars, participate in numerous chamber events and great networking opportunities. 2018 Hanging Flower Baskets
We are looking for sponsors and donations for the hanging baskets that we have on our main street. The cost to sponsor a hanging flower basket is $195. If you are unable to sponsor a basket, please consider making a donation to the hanging flower basket fund. Sponsors and donors will be recognized in the paper the week of Riverfest.

The Dawson Chamber of Commerce and the Dawson Sentinel are offering a Business Spotlight feature for local businesses. The Chamber will sponsor $100 towards the cost, the business will pay $100, and the Dawson Sentinel will provide the remaining $200 cost for the half page ad. The business can supply a few photos, or the Sentinel will take the photos for your business. The Chamber Dollars have been updated. To be valid it must be signed by both the merchant and the purchaser. Chamber Dollars make a great gift and can be used at any Dawson Chamber Business.

Combining energetic storytelling, observations, and fun crowd interaction, Cy Amundson is a brand of stand-up comedy all his own. Growing up one of 9 children in rural Minnesota, Cy’s Dad’s strict television rules left him with few evening options other than Nick At Night. It was among the countless hours with Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, and Lucille Ball that Cy began to fall in love with comedy. In his early 20’s, he moved to Minneapolis to cut his teeth at one of the most reputable comedy clubs in the country – ACME Comedy Company.

Dr. Melissa (M.G.) Nelson has authored three nonfiction books about small farmers and poultry, written numerous articles on pet and livestock health and has written and published two novels. The slaughterhouse Secrets, a suspense novel, and The Telling Mirror, a young adult fantasy book. Her books will be available for purchase, and she will autograph copies of her book. Refreshments will be served.

This presentation takes the audience on a ghostly journey to some of the most haunted places in Minnesota. It covers the entire state of Minnesota from a Witch haunting a cemetery in Jackson to a haunted B&B in Wabasha, from phantom creatures prowling the woods to back road creatures, no place in Minnesota is without its own haunting.
Complete with photos, case history, eyewitness accounts, ghost lore, and directions, this unique presentation encourages you to visit these places for your own ghost story.
Minnesota's Gangster Past

Put on your zoot suit and follow in the footsteps of America's most infamous gangsters as they turned Minnesota into the land of 10,000 crimes. Filled with deadly bank robberies, explosive shootouts, brutal murders, and daring kidnappings, this presentation lets the audience discover the grisly locations where the gangster history will never die.
One Act Team
Congratulations to Dawson-Boyd One Act Team. They placed third in Sub Sections and will advance to the Sections on Saturday, February 3 in Redwood Falls. They performed the play “The internet is A Disaster---Oh Look! A Kitten” written by Ian McWerty.
Congratulations to the Shadows! They placed first at both Varsity High Kick and Jazz titles at the Camden Conference. Sections will be held on Saturday, February 10 in Montevideo at noon.
